I am seeking legal advice from a lawyer regarding my dogs and other animals?

Does anyone know of a number I can call that will give me FREE legal advice regarding my dogs and other animals? I have been keeping them at someones house and now that person does not want to return my animals now that I am in a bigger house. What can I do about this? My dogs have been there for a year and he says he owns them now since he been caring for them without pay. But then again, it was his choice to watch over them and I still am in my animals' lives. I have always took them to the park and went over to where they were staying daily (and every day). I also payed for food, Vet. bills, toys, etc. If you have a number I can call, and it is a legitimate number to a lawyer that will give me free advice when I ask questions, I will give you a thumbs up (from my other account) and I will give you best answer. I will call tomorrow morning. Please help, thank you.

P.s this guy has also tried to have a relationship with my under aged daughter and even talked about marrying her. I have emails of this and I do not let my daughter on her email anymore. He told her he loved her and wanted to be with her, and he told her to find a girl who looked just like her so he can be with her ';twin'; since she didn't want to be with him. Also, I have proof that the dogs/animals belong to me.

PLEASE. Do not say anything offensive to me or my daughter.I am seeking legal advice from a lawyer regarding my dogs and other animals?
If you have proof you own the dogs and further proof that you have paid for their expenses while in his care, than you have a good case in small claims court. The filing fee is minimal and you don't need a lawyer to file in this court. It is very similar to what you see on People's Court, Judge Judy, etc.

I would also inform him that you have copies of his correspondence with your daughter and will turn them over to the proper authorities.I am seeking legal advice from a lawyer regarding my dogs and other animals?
You don't have to call a lawyer. Call animal control and explain what is going on. Show proof that you have been providing for the animals while they have been at his home and that you are the legal owners.

Do not jump to the lawyer unless Animal control is of no help.
You can always ask this Q in the ';lawyers'; section of Y!A

Well, you have proof you were taking care of your dogs..your current vet records will have dates/procdures/and owners name.

You bought the pet food too..look for reciepts/statements that prove you bought the food.

That my 2cents
I went throught the same thing and I just went over and took my dogs. Not recommending it for you but call the police or something. The people that had my dog were mistreating it and EVERYTHING was in my name.
you want to try the legal forum here or on craigslist, you will probably get more advice with a legal forum than pet.
You didn't say how long this person has had your pets or how many there is. but unless you can prove they are yours he may have the upper hand because possession is 9/10th of the law, I mean if he has had them for any length of time he can claim them as his unless you have paper work, vet bills, licenses, kennel club paperwork

Good Luck to you hope you can get them back
What I would do is call your vet and ask for a copy of the paperwork that you signed when you 1st brought your pets in for exams. That will have your information (ok if it is outdated) and your pets names and discriptions. That would help establish you as their owner. I would also request a copy of each pets full medical history...linking your pets 1st name your last name and the dates they were examined or gotten food through their facility. If you have gotten them microchipped or registered through the county, that will provide proof of ownership as well. Inform your vet that so and so (by name) is trying to animal nap (LOL) your pets, and ask them to put a red flag in the computer if ANYBODY other than tried to transfer records. The more proof the better, I am just trying to give you idea's.

If you already have proof, then see what your vet would reccomend. I would not know where free legal advise would come from, nor would i trust it if I could not look a person in the eyes..I would avoid online forums for legal advise (just like medical advise..somebody can really mess up a situation), because it is generally more of a legal opinion, and you really do not know of the persons background in law... Perhaps your vet will be able to advise you? Or call the humane society of your state or county of residence and see what they can offer. If I think of anything else, I will update you.

As far as your underage daughter goes..If it was me in your situation, I would call the cops and go from there. especially if you have the emails. YOu have a lot on your side against the man.
