three years ago, i had a friend in need. he had wrecked a new car and had no insurance. i told him i would buy his old car from him so he would have some money. i gave him cash and he said it would be a couple of weeks befor he could sign the title over to me. so i took the car and parked it at my house. a few days later he got in some trouble and got kicked out of the military. all his phones were turned off and he moved. i got back in contact with him a few months ago and asked about the title for the car. ever since then he has been avoiding me. i've had this car for three years and can do nothing with it with out the title. what can i do???????I NEED AUTOMOTIVE LEGAL ADVICE????? please help!?
The best people to help you out with this problem, would be the Citizens Advice Bureau. Even a call to the D.V.L.A wouldn`t go amiss as they would be able to tell you if he is still the registered owner. Has he shown any interest in claiming the car back. I do feel for you because with friends like this, who needs enemies. GOOD LUCK.I NEED AUTOMOTIVE LEGAL ADVICE????? please help!?
Call the office of the Secretary of State, they might be able to help you. Unfortunately it is not so uncommon that someone doesn't hand over a title.
Some friend. Have it hauled away as junk. You will never see your money again.
OK dear first of all did you get a receipt for the sale of the car? if not and you have had this car in your yard for 3 years the you as a home owner or renter or even living with your parents can declare that the car was abandoned and no one has ever claimed it. go to your local DMV and apply for a lost title and list the car as abandoned and that it has been on your property for 3 yrs and that no one has come to claim it. if your parents own the property then have them go with you.you have squatter's rights to the car since it has been on your property for so long. have your neighbores write you a letter stating the they have seen the car there for 3 years so you have proof to show the DMV that it has actually been there that long.... you shouldn't have any trouble getting a lost title approved by them.
cheers
Jo
let me know how you went and don't let the DMV screw you around... you do have squatter's rights...
