New admission over legal advice on Iraq invasion - will ministers be prosecuted?

';Government fails to provide proof that the former attorney general was not pressured to change his initial opinion that 2003 invasion could be illegal';

Will we get to see blair on trial?

';Fresh questions over the legality of the Iraq war were raised today after the government admitted it could not substantiate its claim that Lord Goldsmith had changed his mind over the legal basis for the invasion before a highly controversial meeting with two of Tony Blair's closest allies.';

Whether the invasion was legal or illegal does not depend on the Advice or views of the AG. This article was written by someone with a fairly shaky grasp of law.

Did it occur to the writer who would determine whetehr it was illegal or not? The UK courts have no juridsdication to declare a vote in Parliament 'illegal'.

The most they could do is judically review executive action and ask that it be reviewed or retaken.

It's a bit late for that.

I'm afraid all this fairly historical chatter about the illegality of the Iraq war has been overtaken by events.

The UK and the US were declared the legal occupying powers by the UN and are currently present with the consent of the Iraqi Parliament.

So no, you won't see TB on trial and no-one to my knowledge has identified the law he is alleegd to have broken and which juridication would be entitled to prosecute him and for what, precisely.New admission over legal advice on Iraq invasion - will ministers be prosecuted?
No basis for a trial here. How could anyone prove the AG wasn't pressured to change his mind? By definition there would be no evidence of this, although it might be possible to prove he was pressured (if he, indeed, was).
Of course not. I hate people who snipe at world leaders - of course the world would be so much better with you at the helm wouldn't it???

Add: yes of course you are right. Foolish of me to believe that to lead a major country would require any sort of intelligence whatever.
